Old Noritake
Old Noritake, crafted between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, represents Japan's first foray into Western porcelain. Japanese artisans studied European design styles such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco, developing them into uniquely Japanese expressions. These works are renowned for their intricate hand-painted designs, vibrant colors, and the lavish use of gold leaf. Even today, they remain highly prized among collectors worldwide.
Japanese Ito-Jime doll by Eiju Shimizu
Eiju Shimizu's Japanese ito-jime dolls
Ito-jime dolls are traditional Japanese crafts created through the unique techniques and aesthetics of the late Jusaburo Tsujimura, one of Japan's most renowned Japanese doll artists. Unlike conventional dolls made from clay, these pieces are crafted using wood wool (shavings) as a core material, shaped with the traditional Japanese tool known as a "wagote." This technique imbues the dolls with a softness and lifelike vitality that exude an organic charm.
Eiju Shimizu studied under Juzaburo Tsujimura for many years and is recognized as the inheritor of Tsujimura's techniques and aesthetics. He is currently one of the most active doll artists devoted to this craft. Our site showcases and offers for sale Eiju Shimizu's exquisite ito-jime dolls.
