Artist Biography (Summary): Tanaka Kiyotaka
1972 Born in Kyoto, into a family deeply rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship—his grandfather supplied kimono fabrics and art objects to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, and his father was a wood artist.
1988–1991 Studied urushi(Japanese lacquer) arts at Kyoto City Dohda Art and Craft High School, developing a foundation in originality and acquiring urushi techniques that became central to his work.
1991–1993 Studied woodworking at the Hida International School of Craft, gaining essential skills and experiencing traditional Japanese rural life, which shaped his artistic philosophy.
1994–1996 Studied interior design at the Hiroko Machida Interior Coordinator Academy, learning the importance of universality in design. Studying interior design gives him the opportunity to think more deeply about the significance of woodworking.
2000–Present Has exhibited widely at major department store galleries across Japan. These solo exhibitions have connected him with customers and supporters who continue to inspire and nurture his work.
