  • Historical Figure Represented: Kukai (774–835), also known as Kobo Daishi, was a Buddhist monk, scholar, poet, and calligrapher during Japan's Heian period. He founded the Shingon school of esoteric Buddhism after studying its teachings in China. Kukai is celebrated for introducing advanced Buddhist practices and mandalas to Japan, greatly influencing Japanese culture and spirituality. Renowned as one of Japan's greatest calligraphers, he is also remembered for his significant contributions to education and public works.
  • Artisan/Designer: Eiju Shimizu, renowned for his expertise in crafting intricate Ito-jime dolls.
  • Unique Craftsmanship: The Ito-jime doll is a unique type of doll created using a technique devised by the late master doll maker Jusaburo Tsujimura.
  • Production Method/material:The head and torso are crafted using tenjiku fabric (a type of cotton fabric) filled with wood wool. The doll is dressed in garments made from authentic kimono fabric, ensuring a unique and traditional aesthetic.
  • Condition: Brand new, meticulously handcrafted as a one-of-a-kind piece.

Care Instructions

・These dolls are crafted using repurposed kimono fabric and should be handled with the same care as traditional kimonos.
・Avoid exposing the doll to humidity and ultraviolet rays whenever possible.
・For stains or dirt on the kimono fabric, we recommend gently dabbing the affected area with benzine and allowing it to dry.
・Benzine can also be used on the face and hands, which are made of chirimen fabric.
・If the doll sustains any damage, please contact us for assistance.
